On Friday, March 29th, Pr. Muhammad Yunus went to Saint-Denis and Ile-Saint-Denis (in the inner suburbs of Paris) for a presentation of the future Olympic and Paralympic Village that will host the 2024 Games.
The visit started at Cité du Cinéma, home to the future athlete canteen. Tony Estanguet, Paris 2024 President, reminded the importance of the heritage that Paris Games will leave for the territory of Saint-Denis.
Nicolas Ferrand, SOLIDEO General Director, then commented the future Village plans and presented their environmental ambitions. The questions of neighborhood transformation after 2024, thanks to the Games, were discussed at length with Pr. Yunus, in presence of Eric Pliez (Les Canaux president), Patrick Braouezec (Plaine Commune president) and Laurent Russier (Saint-Denis mayor). Finally, Elisa Yavchitz, Les Canaux general director, presented the progresses and first results of ESS 2024 – La Plateforme Solidaire.
The sequence continued on Ile-Saint-Denis, where Pr. Yunus had the opportunity to meet and talk with two local social and solidary-driven economy actors: Bellastock and Halage. Bellastock Company currently located on the fluvial eco-neighborhood (one of the four districts that compose the Olympic and Paralympic Village), trains apprentices on circular-economy based construction methods. Halage, a major actor of professional insertion in the area, leads several workforce development projects notably in green spaces.
